Here’s what to do when visiting the Downtown Disney district at the Disneyland Resort for the 2020 holiday season!
The two Disneyland theme parks may be closed, but that isn’t stopping the Disney magic from heading to the resort! Downtown Disney has recently opened new shopping experiences and plenty of fun for everyone. You certainly want to check out this post if you’re waiting in the virtual queue for Buena Vista Street and need something to do!
Downtown Disney is dressed from head to toe in holiday decor. There are Christmas trees, toy soldiers, snowflakes hanging on trees, and holiday music playing all around. The stunning decor makes for some great photos to put you right in the Christmas spirit!
The World of Disney is pretty much the holiday central of Downtown Disney. The shelves are packed with items to celebrate the occasion. Find clothing, stockings, ordainments, gifts, sweets, and so much more here! In fact, the holidays are expected to be so popular that the World of Disney is adding more items every week.
The Disney Wonderground Gallery has transformed into a Star Wars Trading Post. These are authentic gifts and merchandise typically found only in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, with Disneyland closed, this unique Trading Post offers items like lightsaber hilts, porg plushies, jedi robes, and even kyber crystals! Now, if they could just sell blue milk and the outpost popcorn mix, we’d be set!
Downtown Disney is home to two Starbucks locations. However, only the one by the World of Disney store may be open, depending on the day. Here you can find holiday treats like this snowman cake pop that was absolutely delicious!
Other recommended treats in Downtown Disney include beignets at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen, the holiday cupcakes in Sprinkles, and a variety of delicious churros from the California Churro cart!

For even more holiday supplies, head over to the Disneyland Backlot Premiere Shop. Though the store is technically located inside of Disney California Adventure, you won’t need to enter through Buena Vista Street. Instead, a separate line to left of DCA’s entrance brings guests into this “backstage” area. Set up like an art deco-style Hollywood premiere, this store is crammed with holiday goodies! Those with a Disneyland annual passport will be able to use their discount here as well.
Though it’s a little heartbreaking to see Disneyland locked away, we still recommend stopping by the front gates. A rope will keep guests from getting too close, but you can snap photos near the iconic entrance. Hopefully, one day soon we’ll all be strolling through those green gates once again!
The holidays run in Downtown Disney from November through early January. Be sure to get there early or late in the evening to avoid the bulk of the crowds. We also expect that December 26 – January 1 to be especially popular. Since Disneyland does a great job with spacing out guests, you may be waiting in lines to get in if you visit during those dates.
