Walt Disney World’s new tech is updating MagicBands so that Apple Watch and other devices can grant guests access to the resort.
The new Disney MagicMobile allows guests to use their smartphone, Apple Watch, and other mobile devices at the parks. Features including making payments, checking into hotels, unlocking room doors, and scanning park tickets are allow accessible with this new tech.
This year, Disney discontinued free MagicBands for its hotel guests. Since its inception in 2013, the devices have become a little dated. MagicBands are easy, lightweight bracelets that unlock room doors and link to park tickets. One of the best parts is watching scanners glow as guests are granted access upon touching their MagicBand.
However, MagicBands are not totally contact-free. When guests pay with them, a pin is required as an added safety measure. This means typing into a physical keypad. With new customer standards, many may want contact-free experiences in the future. However, with people’s own devices, they will not need to touch anything else!

Disney MagicMobile has not been given an official release date, but it’s expected later this year. MagicBands are not going away and will continue to be sold as long as guests wish to purchase them. However, it appears that MagicMobile is entirely free as it links with a device you already own. To get updates on Walt Disney World, sign up for our free e-mail newsletter!
