Disneyland 2019 Holiday Crowds

Christmas might be over around the world, but the Disneyland Resort is still as festive as ever. As the holiday crowds pour in to see garland on Main Street, U.S.A., only the early arrivers got inside. Everyone else is redirected to the sister park, Disney California Adventure, which still has room.

If you’ve ever been to a Disney park when its reached capacity, you know about the nightmarish situations. Long lines aren’t just for rides, they happen as you enter the parking lots, wait for a tram, and attempt to enter the park. Even dining spots have lines stretching through entire lands.

As for the rides, MaxPass is pretty much the only way to go. Hyperspace Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and more have all sold out of FastPass selections by midday. At 11:30AM, the lines were insane. Check out these wait times:

Wait times during Disneyland Holiday 2019:

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – 110 minutes
“it’s a small world” – 85 minutes
Hyperspace Mountain – 80 minutes
Haunted Mansion Holiday – 75 minutes
Big Thunder Mountain – 75 minutes
Splash Mountain – 60 minutes
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters – 60 minutes

The most shocking to us was Buzz Lightyear. This is a ride that even on crowded days has a max of a 25-minute wait time. However, the holiday crowds break records, making theme park travel unbearable for many.

If you’re visiting the parks this weekend, we have a few tips for you:

  1. Get there EARLY. Preferably, at open to avoid the crowds. We checked this morning and the wait time for most of the rides was under 10 minutes in the first hour.
  2. Get MaxPass as this tends to sell out on crowded days.
  3. Use Mobile Ordering to skip the lines for dining. Mobile Ordering can be accessed via the Disneyland app.

There’s still no word if Disneyland will make more tickets available later in the day. Currently, Annual Passholders are granted access to both theme parks despite. While all of this sounds terrible, you can still have a great time on a crowded day! We cover tons of tips for visiting during the busiest times of year in our 2020 Disneyland Guidebook.
