Disneyland is throwing a Star Wars Nite for 2020, and we have the tickets link, details, and things to consider before buying.
Star Wars Nite launches at Disneyland on August 27, 2020! Characters, special photo ops, themed eats, and more will be the main attractions of the night. The special event won’t work with a standard Disneyland daytime ticket, so you’ll need to purchase those separately.
We’ve been to many Disneyland After Dark events, and each one is very differently themed. However, the highlights for 2020’s events are still the same. Here are some things to know and consider before purchasing tickets.
Wait Times Are Much Shorter
The biggest perk for visiting Disneyland After Dark Night are the short wait times. In 2020, these events have had incredibly short waits for popular rides like Space Mountain, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. How short? During 80s Nite, most of these rides were “walk on” except for the Falcon, which was about 20 minutes for most of the night.
You Can Cosplay
During the day, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge adheres to Disneyland’s strict costume guidelines. However, Disneyland After Dark Nites allow for full costumes! Of course, there are some restrictions (like you can’t carry a realistic weapon or pose as that character with other guests), but there’s plenty of wiggle room from creativity. For us, taking pictures in Galaxy’s Edge while in full costume sounds totally amazing.
The Event Runs LATE
If you’re planning on attending the Star Wars Celebration, and need your beauty sleep, this event may not be for you. Star Wars Nite runs from 9PM to 1AM, with early mix-in at 6PM. Essentially, that means you can access Disneyland starting at 6PM but the party doesn’t start until 9PM. Regular park guests are usually all gone by 830PM or so.
Expect Tons of Photo Ops
The Star Wars-themed photo ops are usually the best! They reenact some of the best scenes from all the movies. For example, the scene on Hoth where Luke uses the force to get his lightsaber and defeat the Wampa. Expect to see this booths everywhere except for Galaxy’s Edge (Disneyland likes to keep that area “authentic” and a photo booth would ruin that effect). Disney PhotoPass is included with your ticket, which means unlimited free downloads of your pictures from the night.
Rise of the Resistance (Probably) Won’t Be Open
That’s right, Disneyland’s premiere Star Wars-themed ride won’t be open for the night. We’re pretty disappointed by this, too. However, the ride is still in its first year and needs a lot of maintenance. Think of Rise of the Resistance as a baby, and in time she’ll grow up into a fully functioning adult. For now, only the daytime crowds get to experience it. That is, if Disney doesn’t work out the kinks by then – which could happen!
If you want to ride Rise of the Resistance (and we strongly suggest that you do), buy a daytime ticket. We recommend getting a park hopper since you can get most of the rides done during 80s Nite. A hopper gets you into Disney California Adventure, which should (hopefully) have its Marvel-themed land, Avengers Campus, open by then.
2020 Star Wars Nite Tickets Will Likely Sell Out
Star Wars Nite happens during the Star Wars Celebration, meaning that thousands of fans will likely end up attending. While most Disneyland After Dark events don’t sell out until a week or two before, we expect this to be much sooner. If you have just a little fear of missing out, get your tickets ASAP.
Tickets for Star Wars Nite are on sale now for annual passholders and general public on February 20, 2020: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/disneyland/after-dark-star-wars-nite
