An Updated Disneyland Flex Passport Review

We review the Disneyland annual pass, Disney Flex Passport. It’s an entirely new way to experience the parks again and again – but is it an improvement?

The Disneyland Resort has never been so popular. Its two parks bustle with guests both day and night. While Disney has combatted the boom of visitors by raising its prices during busier dates and keeping them lower on less-popular days, it still feels overstuffed these days.

One of the biggest culprits of overcrowding are the Annual Passholders. Southern Californians love Disneyland and they visit it without a reason or excuse. An inside source informed us that Disneyland has over 1 million passholders—and many of them live very close by. That means that on any given day, locals with annual passes can stroll into the park after school or work, thus lengthening the wait times and packing the fireworks show.

To combat the crowds, Disneyland created the Disney Flex Passport. This annual pass allows visits on most days, minus one week for spring break and two weeks for winter holiday. The pass also comes with 10% off select food and merchandise.

How the Disney Flex Passport Works

Now, of course, most of June, July, and August are “reservation only” dates for Disneyland, meaning that those with the Flex Passport will have to reserve in advance. All reservations will be available 30 days ahead of the date and 2 reservations are allowed within this “window.” If you’ve used your two reservations, you may book another once you’ve used the first. Flex Passport holders may also cancel and change their reservations as much as they want using the Disneyland website or Disneyland app (also uses as the method of booking a reservation).

In order to keep the crowds in control, Disney has a “no show” penalty. After a passholder doesn’t scan into the park 3 times within a 90-day window, they will be unable to reserve for 30 days. However, there are still “good to go” dates during the week in most months where the passholder will be able to visit.

Is the Disney Flex Passport Worth It?

There are a few more things to consider before jumping on the Flex Pass. Now with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance open, holidays, special occasions (like Valentines Day), and most Saturdays become booked very early. Other days are rarely booked before then.

However, this seems to only affect Disneyland at the moment. Disney California Adventure typically has open availability on most holidays and weekends. This could change once Avengers Campus opens in Summer 2020.

After starting out at $599, the Flex Passport has jumped to $649. It’s still quite cheaper than most other annual passports and offers wider availability than the Southern California Select. So, if you’re wanting to save money and don’t mind planning your trip 30 days ahead, this AP is a great deal.
