Black Widow Release Date Pushed Back

Marvel’s Black Widow release date has been pushed back to the fall. Originally scheduled for May 1, 2020, the film opens in theaters on November 6, 2020.

Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a former Russian spy who joined the Avengers. The film serves as a prequel to the Avengers: Endgame, where the Marvel hero faced her fate. At this point, the film is expected to gross of $1 billion worldwide.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, fans suspected that Black Widow might skip the theaters and head to the Disney+ streaming service. However, Disney reorganized their movie lineup to include Black Window toward the end of 2020.

Other Marvel films gained new release dates including The Eternals (Feb 12, 2021), Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (May 7, 2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (November 5, 2021).

The Disney Pixar animated film, Onward, debuted on Disney+ today, only a month after its release in theaters. Furthermore, Disney announced that the upcoming fantasy-crime film, Artemis Fowl, would skip the theaters for Disney+. So far, it’s the only film to make this move.
