We review Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! From enchanting entrances to whimsical dishes, this character dining event delivers heaps of entertainment with several enchanting surprises.
We felt shocked when Disney announced plans to reimagine its Artist Point restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge. After all, Artist Point was the only signature dining space in this hotel region, and Disney was essentially downgrading it to a character dinner. However, when the menus arrived, we realized that Storybook Dining is a premium, must-see event for all classic Disney fans.
This new dinner-only experience is very, very popular. In fact, grabbing a reservation requires either a lot of planning — or a load of luck. It appears that Disney’s Snow White has heaps of fans eager to dine with her, the dwarfs, and the Evil Queen. That’s right, this character dining experience is strictly Snow White characters, and only the most popular ones make the cut. So far, we’ve seen only Dopey and Grumpy, though others may join in the future.
Storybook Dining with Snow White has a more adult-sounding menu with forest-inspired culinary creations. There are cocktails like the Enchanted Apple with citrus vodka and white cranberry juice, and dishes like butternut squash gnocchi and roasted chicken with confit potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts. Though we were expecting a more “adult feel” to this dining experience, Storybook Dining was created for Disney fans of all ages. Snow White dances, Dopey gets silly, and the Evil Queen is more diva than ever. Both kids and adults were having a great time at this dinner.
The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for this experience. Tables spread throughout the floor, giving plenty of room for waiters and characters to move about. The decorated pillars of the room look like lurching trees, but without the scare factor that the trees had in the animated film. Our reservation was early in the evening when the sun was still shining. The room looked a little bland then, but as the sun set, the magical forest lights cast an enchanting blue hue around the room.
The dining experience starts at $59.99 per adult and $35.00 per child. It includes a set of appetizers per person, your choice of entree, a set of desserts, and a fountain beverage. Alcohol and other specialty drinks are separate. We love multiple course meals because we enjoy trying everything, so this experience was a great fit for us. We also enjoyed that each set of appetizers and dessert was individually portioned, even though the menu said “shared.”
Storybook Dining Winter Squash Bisque Storybook Dining Hunter’s Pie Storybook Dining Wicked Shrimp Cocktail
The meal started with bits of Winter Squash Bisque, Hunter’s Pie, and Wicked Shrimp Cocktail. The Squash Bisque was creamy with a splash of sweet from a “caramel lollipop” — it sort of tasted like creamed yams with marshmallows. The hunter’s pie was a sweet and savory mix of flavorful chicken and a fruit preserve topping in a flakey shell. The shrimp cocktail was out least favorite as it was fairly standard, but less tangy than typical.
Storybook Dining The Enchanted Apple martini Storybook Dining non-alcoholic Transformation Potion
The restaurant has an extensive wine and beer list, but we chose a couple of cocktails — one alcoholic, one non-alcoholic. The Enchanted Apple was a sweet and sour martini with citrus vodka, sour apple mix, and white cranberry juice. It also came with a thinly sliced apple on top and a sugar rim. We enjoyed the sweet-sour combination, but wished for a bigger martini glass. The non-alcoholic Transformation Potion is a fantastic treat for kids, especially tweens who might have more developed tastebuds. The drink had a little show as blue potion was poured into the yellow lemonade, and magically changed to another color that wasn’t green! This was a tasty, sweeter take on lemonade that we think was worth the $5 price tag.
The best part, however, was the sweet ending. After Snow White and her friends visit your table, you’re served a succession of desserts. The Fairy Tale Gooseberry Pie was a deliciously tart mini pie, the “Poison” Apple was a sweet and sour delicate mousse confection, and the Miner’s Treasures — our favorite — tasted like a perfectly moist chocolate chip cake with plenty of buttercream and garnished with an edible white chocolate Dopey hat. The most stunning presentation was The Hunter’s Gift to the Queen, a chocolate ganache heart with maple caramelized popcorn served in a smoking glass box!
At the end of the meal, after the bill had been delivered, the waiter allowed to meet the Evil Queen for a photo opp. She made us promise that she’s the fairest in the land and then we posed for a photo near a backdrop. We sort of wish this backdrop was a bit more detailed and less like a 2-D background placed a bit oddly in the center of the restaurant, but the photos turned out great!
If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, this experience surprisingly only costs one table service credit. Disney Vacation Club Members and those with annual passes will save 10% off their meal when they show their card. Of course, if you have the Disney Dining Plan, the drinks would be included with one table service credit per person. Overall, we think that this dining experience was on par with Be Our Guest in terms of food and fun. While the ambiance isn’t as stunning as Be Our Guest, we still though the value was perfect. For the Disney Dining Plan, Storybook Dining is only one table service credit while Be Out Guest is two.
There are more magical details throughout this experience that we didn’t dive into (you have to be left with a few small surprises, right?), but we highly recommend this experience for those looking for a new take on character dining.
While other character breakfasts and dinners around Walt Disney World are buffet based, this felt more like a dinner and show that brought guests into the charming world of Snow White. Be sure to pack your autograph book for the characters! If you forget it, your waiter can grab you a pen and the characters will sign a paper apple signature card provided at every seat.
Visit here at Walt Disney World’s official website to grab your reservation today. If you can’t get a reservation, you may have to wait a little bit once checking in with the hostess, provided that there are still seats available.
