The Star Wars-themed Hyperspace Mountain at Disneyland now has an end date. The popular overlay will change back to the original in-the-dark roller coaster Space Mountain on January 8, 2020. This means that the last day to enjoy Hyperspace Mountain will be January 6, 2020—also the end date of Disneyland’s holiday festivities. The roller coaster will be closed on January 7, 2020 for the changeover.
Originally scheduled starting on “Star Wars Day” (May the Fourth) through summer of 2020, Hyperspace Mountain has made a come back several times over the years. Projections, music, and laser effects bring the Star Wars universe to life as guests ride the Space Mountain roller coaster. However, Hyperspace Mountain proved so popular with guests that its run was extended through the holiday season. Even the annual Halloween Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy took a hiatus in favor of the Star Wars version.
Season of the Force
Hyperspace Mountain originally debuted in 2015 as part of “Season of the Force”—a celebration of all things Star Wars. The Season of the Force also brought new food items based around the franchise and a new scene added to Star Tours. Guests also took part of the Path of the Jedi show in the Tomorrowland Theater and Star Wars: Launch Bay which ultimately replaced Innoventions.
The Season of the Force celebrations led up to the opening of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. Now that the newest trilogy has come to end, so does this final celebration of Season of the Force. With the Hyperspace Mountain end date also comes a new attraction for Disneyland. One of Disney’s most innovative rides ever, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, opens on January 17, 2020 in Galaxy’s Edge. Though we’re incredibly excited for Rise of the Resistance, we’re still hopeful that Hyperspace will make its way back sometime soon.
