The gondolas arrive September 29, 2019—here’s what you should know:
This weekend, the Disney Skyliner gondolas will finally debut at Walt Disney World! This fast and fun transport will take guests to popular resorts and theme parks around Walt Disney World. We’re incredibly excited for a new, fun way to see the sights and get around during our trips. Here are some important details and tips before you go:
It’s Free!
You don’t need a theme park admission or even a hotel reservation to use Disney Skyliner. Just hop on at one of the stops and ride to your destination. The gondolas drop off in front of hotels and the theme parks, so you won’t need a ticket for one.
The Gondolas Don’t Go Everywhere
As of now, the Disney Skyliner connects the following resort destinations:
- Epcot
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Disney’s Riviera Resort (opening December 2020)
- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort & Disney’s Pop Century Resort (these share a stop)
Skyliner Doesn’t Have AC—But That Shouldn’t Be an Issue
It’s hard to believe that something in Central Florida wouldn’t have air conditioning. However, the designs of these individual gondolas wouldn’t allow for easy AC without battery packs. Instead, ventilation shafts remain open to keep the cabins cool. Disney seems confident that guests will have enjoyable rides, even in the heat.
Some Have Characters—But That’s Kind of an Issue
Most of the Skyliner gondolas are a gold color and can be easily seen from below. However, many also have beautifully painted characters on them like Anna and Elsa from Frozen. While kids may want to ride with their favorite Disney characters, this could be an issue for snapping the sights. Since the decals dim the visibility, pictures are better taken from the gold gondolas. If you’re about to hop inside a character transport, but would rather ride in a standard gondola, ask the cast member if you can wait.
