The Walt Disney World Resort cancelled two of its most popular runDisney Marathons in 2021. The event was expected to draw large crowds.
Sad news, runners, Disney cancelled two more of its runDisney events. The 2021 Walt Disney World Marathon and the 2021 Disney Princess Half Marathon will not take place at the Resort.
Instead, Disney is doing a virtual series for both events. A similar move happened for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend in 2020. Disney stated, “While we share our Guests’ disappointment that we will not be running together in person, we have based this decision on the unique circumstances of hosting a road race experience on this scale under the current environment.”
The runDisney marathon events are incredibly popular at the Resort. The events allow guests to run through the Resort and even parts of its theme parks. Participants typically dress as their favorite Disney characters as they compete. For those who complete all of the runs in the Walt Disney World Marathon, Disney awards a “Dopey Challenge” medal!
The Walt Disney World Marathon was scheduled from January 6-10, 202 and the Disney Princess Half Marathon for February 18-21, 2021. Disney scheduled the Star Wars Rival Run from April 15-18, 2021.
