It appears that Disney could use heat scanners to check guest temperatures in the future. At least, it’s one of many safety ideas that the company is considering.
In a recent interview with Barron’s, Disney executive chairman, Bob Iger, stated that the company remains hopeful about the future. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues around the world, the company is floating several ideas to keep its guests safe.
“One of the things that we’re discussing already is that in order to return to some semblance of normal, people will have to feel comfortable that they’re safe,” Iger stated. He went on to compare heat scanners as the new “bag check” option.
Of course, heat scanners may not accurately show who is sick. Since many won’t show symptoms, heat scanners only prevent guests who may already feel ill. Nevertheless, having this type of security could help in some instances.

Iger explained that the company will look at China and American schools as it considers reopening its parks. This makes sense to us as once public schools are back in session, it makes sense that theme parks can also reopen. At the moment, California schools aren’t returning until the Fall semester, many of which open in August. Furthermore, we expect Shanghai Disneyland to reopen sooner than the other worldwide parks.
It’s still too early to say when Disney might reopen Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
