Universal Studios Hollywood’s The Walking Dead Attraction is closing early spring 2020.
Zombie fans, we have some bad news: The Walking Dead Attraction is closing at Universal Studios Hollywood. The walkthrough experience closes in March 2020, with Universal confirming March 4th as the end date.
The sad news comes just weeks away from The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash opening date. While Universal hasn’t specifically stated why The Walking Dead will close, many suspect because of the scary nature being so close to A Secret Life of Pets.
The Walking Dead had a combination of animatronics, elaborate set pieces, and costumed actors based on AMC’s television series. The actors jump out and scared guests, but do not touch them.
At one point, the experience had a large helicopter on top of its entryway. However, that’s since been removed. After the removal of the helicopter, Universal fans believed that the attraction would close shortly after. However, it’s held out until now.
Universal Studios Hollywood began year-round scare mazes in 2004 with Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula. Since then, other attractions have taken its place including ones based around Universal’s Classic Monsters. While maze-filled Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights has record sales each fall, the year-round attractions aren’t as popular. For one, they are very niche, mostly to visiting adults without children. Two, a walkthrough attraction isn’t as alluring as a ride.
